Holly C. Brinda, MPA, was elected to her first four-year term as Mayor of the City of Elyria, Ohio in November 2011 and took office January 1, 2012. Mayor Brinda serves as the city’s chief administrator and official representative. She is responsible for the general management of the City and works with the Law Director to enforce all laws and ordinances and the City Auditor to establish and monitor an annual $108 million budget. Other administrative duties include the appointments of her senior staff, department heads, and persons serving on a number of boards and commissions. Mayor Brinda is also providing leadership in the areas of planning and public engagement, economic development and marketing, and promoting volunteerism. As the City’s Chief Executive Officer, the Mayor administers oaths, and signs all resolutions and ordinances passed by Elyria City Council.
A native Elyrian, Mayor Brinda’s family has lived in Elyria for five generations. She graduated from Elyria High School in 1976 and went on to earn a Bachelor of Arts degree in News Editorial Journalism from The Ohio State University in 1980 and a Masters Degree in Public Administration from Cleveland State University in 2001. Prior to becoming Mayor, Mrs. Brinda served for 27 years in executive level management roles as a Director or Vice President in the areas of K-12 education, higher education and a number of large northeast Ohio non-profit organizations. In addition, she served as past president and 12-year member of the Elyria Board of Education as well as a trustee on four other Lorain County organizations. The mother of four grown children, Mayor Brinda and her husband Greg are committed to the community and are privileged to serve as volunteers on a regular basis.
