Local Leaders From Across Ohio to Outline Fiscal Impacts of HB 296, Unintended Consequences on Current Public Safety Efforts

Bipartisan leaders from Ohio Mayors Alliance and Ohio Municipal League to warn against hugely consequential unfunded state mandate being passed during lame duck session
COLUMBUS – Local leaders from the Ohio Mayors Alliance and the Ohio Municipal League will gather at the Ohio Statehouse on Monday, Dec. 2 at 2pm to discuss the significant fiscal impacts and unintended consequences on current public safety efforts of House Bill 296.
This legislation (HB 296) was recently passed out of the Ohio House Pensions Committee. It proposes an unprecedented rate increase in the employer (municipal) contribution rate to the Ohio Police & Fire Pension Fund.
Local communities and taxpayers already contribute over $300 million to this pension system and HB 296 is an unfunded mandate that would increase that amount by over $80 million once fully implemented. Here are the details:
