Columbus, OH – The Ohio Mayors Alliance Board of Directors issued the following statement supporting the state and local settlement agreement with the Big Three opioid distributors, AmerisourceBergen, Cardinal Health, and McKesson. The agreement has the potential to bring tens of millions of dollars to local governments across Ohio to help combat the ongoing opioid epidemic. 

“The Ohio Mayors Alliance supports the settlement agreement with the Big Three opioid distributors because it is the most effective path towards recovery after years of damage, destruction, and heartache from this ongoing opioid epidemic. 

“By coming together and developing a unified settlement structure, we now have a very real opportunity to secure meaningful resources that will help address the challenges of drug addiction in our communities. 

“Local governments took action early in this process to hold these distributors accountable, but it was the collective efforts of Ohio’s state and local leaders that have brought about this important settlement opportunity for Ohio.

“The more local leaders that come together to support this settlement agreement, the greater the opportunity to help support local treatment specialists, first responders, nurses, and many others on the frontlines of the recovery process. This agreement is the best option for our local governments to recover from the devastation of the opioid epidemic and to keep our communities safe and healthy.”

The Ohio Mayors Alliance is a bipartisan coalition of mayors in over two dozen of Ohio’s largest cities. The board of directors includes: Columbus Mayor Andrew Ginther, Findlay Mayor Christina Muryn, Kettering Mayor Don Patterson, Lancaster Mayor David Scheffler, Parma Mayor Tim DeGeeter, and Youngstown Mayor Tito Brown.
