Ohio Mayors Alliance Statement In Support of The Repeat Firearm Offenders Act
May 7, 2024
COLUMBUS, OH – The Ohio Mayors Alliance, a bipartisan coalition of mayors in Ohio’s 30 largest cities, issued the following statement from Executive Director Keary McCarthy in support of draft legislation known as the Repeat Firearms Offender Act.
“We applaud the efforts of State Representatives Josh Williams (R-Sylvania Township) and Bernie Willis (R-Springfield) for their work to craft meaningful legislation to help get repeat violent firearm offenders off the streets.
“We know some of the worst perpetrators of gun violence are often already prohibited from owning or possessing a firearm. The Repeat Firearm Offender Act will target these individuals with increased weapons under disability charges and help keep our communities safe.
“We look forward to continuing to work with lawmakers and our partners in law enforcement as this important legislation makes its way through the committee process. While we continue to examine the various components of this bill, we are encouraged by the efforts of Reps. Williams and Willis, and we look forward to working with them to address the challenges of gun violence and improve public safety across Ohio.”
