Celebrating 10 Years of Bipartisan Leadership and 250 Years of American Democracy

Our Celebrating Ohio Cities Luncheon brought together current and former mayors from across the state to reflect on a decade of bipartisan leadership and a look ahead to what’s next for Ohio’s cities. A theme throughout the event is the vibrancy of Ohio cities, the important role they play in the economic success of our state, and the solutions-oriented approach of our mayors who, regardless of party, just have to get things done.

250 Years of Democracy

Ohio Mayors Alliance Foundation board members, former Ohio Governor Bob Taft and former Cleveland Mayor Jane Campbell kicked off the event honoring America’s 250 years of democracy and emphasized the importance of continuing that legacy.

10 Years of Bipartisan Leadership

In 2026, the Ohio Mayors Alliance is celebrating its 10-year anniversary. In honor of this decade of bipartisan work we invited some of our founding members to reflect on the work of OMA and the impact this organization has had on Ohio as well as the day-to-day work of our mayors.

Moderated by Toledo Mayor Wade Kapszukiewicz, the panel included Columbus Mayor Andrew Ginther, former Lancaster Mayor David Scheffler, former Dayton Mayor Nan Whaley, and former Findlay Mayor Lydia Mihalik.

Powering a Resurgence for Ohio

The Ohio Mayors Alliance rolled out our Statewide Policy Agenda & Core Cities Strategy for Ohio. Ohio’s cities give our state a unique competitive advantage and the Ohio Mayors Alliance is proposing a Core Cities Strategy to embrace our cities as economic drivers and encourage targeted growth in communities that are built for it. Four of the Ohio Mayors Alliance board members took the stage to make the case for investing in our cities and outline our four policy priorities.

Springfield Mayor Rob Rue introduced our panel which included Akron Mayor Shammas Malik, Mansfield Mayor Jodie Perry, Lima Mayor Sharetta Smith, and Findlay Mayor Christina Muryn.
