Mayors & Lawmakers Luncheon – 2025
April 29, 2025
Here is a quick video recap of our 2025 Mayors & Lawmakers Luncheon featuring Akron Mayor Shammas Malik, Dublin Mayor Chris Amorose Groomes, Euclid Mayor Kirsten Holzheimer Gail, and Toledo Mayor Wade Kapszukiewicz.
At this year’s luncheon, we convened a bipartisan panel on “Delivering Smart, Effective Public Safety Services” with Akron Mayor Shammas Malik; Former Police Chief and Current Lancaster Mayor, Don McDaniel; and Cincinnati Police Chief, Theresa Theetge.

As these panelists noted, public safety is the largest budgetary expense for our cities and the investments that our communities have made into law enforcement and other violence prevention strategies have helped to significantly reduce crime and improve public safety in Ohio’s cities.
Special thanks to Mayor Malik, Chief Theetge, and Mayor McDaniel for sharing their insights and leading this important discussion.

Before the luncheon, the mayors met with Lt. Governor Jim Tressel to discuss a range of issues that impact our cities and our state. We heard more about Gov. DeWine’s priorities for 2025 and LG Tressel’s focus on strengthening Ohio’s workforce.
Over two dozen state lawmakers, both Republicans and Democrats, joined us for our 6th annual Mayors & Lawmakers Luncheon on April 29, 2025. Cleveland Mayor Justin Bibb and Athens Mayor Steve Patterson, highlighting our policy priorities, including public safety and our support for a dedicated state Public Safety Fund to support local governments.
